Response: Debt ceiling bill is a disaster filled with poison pills Congress must reject

WASHINGTON, DC — Congress and the Biden Administration recently released the complete text of legislation that would increase the debt ceiling while also advancing a wide array of the Republican Party and fossil fuel industry’s priorities.

In response, Collin Rees, United States Program Manager at Oil Change International, released the following statement:

“President Biden’s capitulation to extremist demands has resulted in a disastrous bill that would devastate the climate and environmental justice communities. This bill fast-tracks the deadly Mountain Valley fracked gas pipeline, attacks bedrock environmental laws, and imposes brutal budget cuts to working families.

“In the face of climate crisis, Congress and the president’s decision to expand fossil fuel production is unconscionable. The non-debt ceiling components of this bill are deeply conservative priorities that would roll back harm people already most impacted by austerity and pollution.

“The debt limit has been raised or suspended 78 times since 1960. This is a manufactured crisis designed specifically to hurt working people, and our leaders don’t have to participate in this deadly charade. Congress should reject these poison pills that have no relation to the debt ceiling and pass a clean increase.”

  • Stop the POLLUTION of Our Planet NOW! Fossil fuels, Gas, Coal that are proven to Pollute our Land Sea and Air. What more do you need to know? Why does our ILLUSTRIOUS Government allow this to happen? Why have they (Democrat and Republican) allowed this to happen and worsen over DECADES? Who the hell is in charged? I want to live in a clear and clean environment, without being afraid to drink chemically treated Water, or breathing compromise air. I pay for this in my taxes, and the Government has seen fit to award the Business Conglomerates wit Tax omissions and deductions along with the very wealthy of our Nation, with tax deductions that could have been better spent addressing our IMMEDIATE dilemma. Who is in charge here? I want to hear from that person. If we continue on this path, we “The People” who no longer respect the Supreme Court will find other ways to remedy this situation.

The above statement is without prejudice, from an 84 year old retired successful businessman, who has lived through much better times and Governments, with a concern for my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Stop the BULLSHIT and rectify your previous stumbles. NOW.
