How many billions of dollars a year are the world’s armies spending to defend oil supplies instead of human life?

If you ask NATO the answer is apparently: “Not enough.” According to Jamie Shea, director of policy planning in the office of NATO’s secretary-general, NATO is considering sending sea-borne rapid-reaction forces to Africa, Asia and the Middle East to protect oil companies. According to Al Jazeera, Shea told a recent conference in London on Monday: “In NATO, we are looking very actively at using our maritime resources,” in order to “see how we can link up with oil companies.”
