Yesterday, New York’s Senator Chuck Schumer, went on TV to say that there are two words that are the key to lower gas prices: “Saudi” and “Arabia.” According to the state’s Senior Senator, the US should withhold arms deals until the Saudis increase oil production.

Schumer seemed to be competing with his junior colleague Hillary Clinton for what might be called the “Mike Bloomberg Dumbest Idea Sweepstakes.”

Schumer’s Senate colleagues on the Republican side, meanwhile, bear responsibility for being “on the verge of allowing of allowing modest but vital tax credits to expire that are crucial to the future of renewable energy sources like wind and solar power,” according to an editorial in the New York Times.

No one ever said the competition for dumbest idea would be a cakewalk.
