GLOBAL POLICY

The Paris climate goals demand a rapid, just transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. We’re pushing governments to lead the way by adopting policies to end oil and gas production.

OVERVIEW OF WORK

In order to achieve climate goals, governments and other decision makers must support a just and equitable move away from fossil fuels. We are pushing for precedent-setting leadership from governments to put policies in place to manage the decline of oil and gas and ensure a just transition for fossil-fuel dependent workers and communities.

Building from a growing group of first mover governments, we are pressuring for increasing numbers of national and regional governments to end new licenses and permits for oil and gas production, and to develop plans to wind down their existing production over time.

Stop complaining about high gas prices – you have it cheap – that is the message from the oil barons to the American public. In parts of Europe, gas prices are $5 per gallon to $7 per gallon, the chairman of ConocoPhillips, James Mulva, argued when he appeared on NBC's Meet the Press.
Mulva, who appeared with two other oil executives, said they would keep gas prices down, unless another hurricane hit the US. “I do understand why consumers are concerned. The thing that concerns all of us, I think, is that we're heading into hurricane season again," added chairman of

Its great to see the oldest Sunday newspaper in the world, The Observer doing a pull-out section on energy to inform its readers on climate change and renewables.

You can also read Livio’s story from Shell saying “we believe that companies could cut their carbon output, so we have started with

The Democrats have announced key issues on which they will fight the mid-term elections in November. These include eliminating subsidies for oil and gas companies as well as a 25 percent reduction in oil use by 2020, largely by developing fuel alternatives in the United States. "We want to send our energy money to the Midwest, not the Middle East," Representative Nancy Pelosi the House leader said.

The Democrats contrasted their “new direction” with that of the Republicans— which they called "the wrong direction". So go on, tell us what your polices would be on gas prices, energy security and climate

Oil Change's Separate Oil and State campaign is just about to kick-off big time. The ad below is ready to run in newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York Times.

The House just authorized drilling in the Arctic, the Bush Administration is still slashing energy efficiency programs, and both are opposing any kind of windfall profits tax on their friends in the oil industry. Seems like the $8.6 million Big Oil has already spent on buying influence for the 2006 election is paying off. Oil Company profits have increased as the price of gas has gone up for

This briefing assesses Shell’s fossil fuel extraction plans in light of Shell's appeal of a Dutch court verdict requiring the company to take responsibility for its climate pollution. Our analysis shows that Shell continues to plan for levels of oil and gas production and investment that undermine the world’s chances of curtailing climate disaster.
