Paris Agreement Ratification Means No New Fossil Fuels
To meet Paris goals, governments must end expansion of fossil fuel industry

In response to the Paris Agreement reaching the country ratification thresholds needed to enter into force, David Turnbull, Campaigns Director of Oil Change International, released the following statement:

“The speed with which the Paris Agreement will enter into force provides a hopeful signal that world leaders are finally waking up to the urgency of the climate crisis. But the real test now begins: Will these same world leaders take the action necessary to meet the Paris Agreement’s goals? The climate science is clear: to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees, they must immediately end public support to fossil fuels, end expansion of fossil fuel development, and begin a managed decline of the fossil fuel industry with a just transition to renewable energy. The Paris Agreement defined the size of the hole we’re in – it’s now time for world leaders to put down the shovels and start climbing out of it.”
