In a great case of irony, US Senate Budget Committee has passed a bill that includes a provision to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to drilling, just days after the region suffered its worst oil spill.

If you read any of the glossy brochures about opening up ANWR, companies such as BP talk about responsible drilling and the best environmental and safety standards in the world. I have always said one of the hardest tests for the oil industry is comparing the reality on the ground with their rhetoric in print. Once again they have been found wanting.
