Nigeria: MEND Promises Bloodshed
Published by Andy Rowell January 4th, 2008 in African Oil, violence
More unrest for Nigeria. The main militant group in the Niger Delta – MEND or The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta - is threatening a “bloody fight” in the new year.
MEND says in an e-mail statement that its “goal remains to paralyze 100 per cent of Nigeria’s oil export in one swipe.”
MEND argues that the Nigerian armed forces were going to “wipe it out” despite a government peace initiative.
“The leakage of classified information meant to annihilate us during a fraudulent peace initiative has prepared us for the bloody fight in 2008,” the email said.
Sadly the vortex of violence looks set to continue…
