Reporting back from Senator Boxer’s first hearing as chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which included in-person or written statements (all of which will be made publicly available by the Committee) from approximately a third of the Senate on the topic of global warming:

Poor old George. One week he tries to paint himself green, and manages to mention climate change for the first time in his State of the Union address.
The next week, his administration is accused of systemic tampering with the work of government climate scientists to eliminate politically inconvenient material about global warming.

A leading candidate in Nigeria’s upcoming presidential elections has attacked the country’s foreign-dominated oil industry for fuelling corruption.
“Corruption has been worse with oil because oil has brought more money,” said the former Nigerian military strongman General Muhammadu Buhari, who is running a presidential campaign based on an anti-corruption platform.

“Global Cool” officially launched its 10-year campaign to “defeat” climate change yesterday in London and LA. It is calling on one billion people to reduce their carbon emissions by just one tonne a year, for the next 10 years, so avoiding the “climatic tipping point”.

Wind power generating capacity increased by 27 percent in 2006 and is expected to increase an additional 26 percent in 2007, proving wind is now a mainstream option for new power generation, according to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).
